Why enroll? The Certificate in Higher Education Teaching helps junior faculty, adjunct instructors, teaching assistants, and professionals preparing to teach at the college level develop the instructional knowledge and practical competencies needed for effective higher education teaching.

Participants strengthen their approach to course design, teaching and learning, learner engagement, assessment, and other essential elements of college instruction while earning a ÌÇÐÄÊÓƵ credential that demonstrates continued professional development in higher education teaching.

Upon successful completion of the program, participants earn a ÌÇÐÄÊÓƵ microcredential, issued as both a digital badge and digital certificate, along with 6 continuing education units (CEUs).

Discounts

ÌÇÐÄÊÓƵ part-time faculty, adjunct faculty, and recent graduates (2025-2027) with an M.A. or Ph.D. may register for a discounted, flat-rate of $600. To do so, contact Nancy Pratt at n.pratt@csuohio.edu for details. 

All other ÌÇÐÄÊÓƵ alumni qualify for a 10% discount on tuition.

Current ÌÇÐÄÊÓƵ graduate students can enroll in ALD 690 through CampusNet to receive credit. ÌÇÐÄÊÓƵ's standard per credit fees apply.

The Certificate in Higher Education Teaching (CHET) is now available for graduate credit through ALD 690. This option is ideal for ÌÇÐÄÊÓƵ graduate students who would like to incorporate CHET into their semester coursework while earning a recognized teaching credential. Participants who successfully complete the course receive both a digital badge and certificate, with the credential also recorded on their official ÌÇÐÄÊÓƵ transcript.

Registration for ALD 690 is through CampusNet and all ÌÇÐÄÊÓƵ policies apply.

Culminating Assignment: The certificate requires a culminating assignment, which consists of a revised syllabus and a reflective summary that showcases the thoughtful integration of pedagogical principles and instructional strategies developed throughout the course.

Important Dates

Certificate completion requirements:

• Completion of the six learning units
• Attendance at five faculty-led discussion sessions (every-other-Thursday, 6-7 p.m.)
• Completion of the culminating assignment

Upon completion, students earn a ÌÇÐÄÊÓƵ micro-credential, issued as both a digital badge and a digital certificate.

Alums of ÌÇÐÄÊÓƵ always receive a 10% discount on all non-credit continuing education and professional development.

Note: Discounts may not be stacked. One discount per learner is allowed.

Non-credit certificate courses are not eligible for financial aid. To use financial aid, you must be admitted as a ÌÇÐÄÊÓƵ student and enroll in ALD 690 for credit.
 

Prerequisites

Prerequisites: Ideal candidates have a graduate degree, are working faculty or are enrolled graduate students (at ÌÇÐÄÊÓƵ or another university). 

Applicants with a bachelor’s degree may also qualify if they have at least five years of professional experience in the subject area they intend to teach and plan to teach in Learning and Development, Professional Development, or Continuing Education.
